YouTuber emociona con video en que maquilla a su madre enferma de cáncer (15/02/2017)

El maquillaje suele percibirse como una herramienta superficial, pero en este caso la youtuber Nadina Ioana ha demostrado que también puede impactar positivamente en la autoestima.

En un video subido el 3 de diciembre de 2016, Nadina maquilla a su mamá que se encuentra afectada por un cáncer. Su mamá ha perdido ya el pelo y el en video es posible ver una impresionante transformación que en este caso no tiene que ver con alcanzar la perfección, sino con lograr subir la autoestima y el ánimo a través del maquillaje.

Conversamos con Rose Marie Oliva, Coordinadora de Salud Mental de la Unidad Medicina Integrativa de la Fundación Arturo López Pérez, para conocer cómo se afecta la autoestima de las mujeres con cáncer y qué se puede hacer en materia de maquillaje.

¿Cuál es el impacto que los tratamientos contra el cáncer tienen en la autoestima de una mujer?

“El cáncer significa una serie de cambios difíciles de asumir. Los tratamientos quirúrgicos conllevan pérdidas en la figura corporal, muchas veces no recuperables, en tanto que los tratamientos de quimioterapia, si bien pueden tener efectos visibles como la pérdida del cabello, por ejemplo, conllevan la percepción de pérdida de capacidad funcional, como producto de innumerables síntomas posibles como la falta de energía y las náuseas, entre otros.

Al evaluar una paciente, frecuentemente vemos que la adaptación a estos cambios es oscilante, lenta y difícil. La autoestima personal refiere a la percepción de capacidad y valor que un individuo tiene de sí mismo y es puesta duramente a prueba durante el diagnóstico y tratamiento oncológico. Ya el diagnóstico implicará el rótulo de “enferma” el que cambia la visión de sí misma, de capacidad y atractivo físico y la visión que se tiene de la percepción de otros.  Son frecuentes declaraciones como “no me siento mujer”, “estoy gorda, fea”, “no me reconozco en el espejo”, “todo se me olvida, estoy tonta… quedaré así?”, “no me quiero ver, no me miro”.

Es importante acompañar a la paciente durante todo este período de reconstrucción de la imagen de sí misma brindándole elementos de apoyo que le faciliten el tránsito durante el habitualmente extenso período de tratamiento”.
